“Legal Files’ ability to manage email, in one place, along with all other matter-related information, and categorize email and attachments at the appropriate file level, will be an essential and fundamental change for us.”
Thompson Rivers University has entered into a contract with Legal Files Software, Inc. to license and implement its Legal Files case and matter management software for the university’s Office of the General Counsel.
Legal Files will be the first electronic legal case management system implemented at Thompson Rivers University, a public teaching and research university with its main campus in Kamloops, British Columbia.
“We are responsible for managing many matters,” University General Counsel John Sparks said. “Currently, we are using several, disparate systems to assist us, but none of those are specifically designed to be used as a legal case management system,” he said. “We need to be able to locate and retrieve items, whether that is an email, a document or something else, more quickly.”
Sparks said, “Legal Files’ ability to manage email, in one place, along with all other matter-related information, and categorize email and attachments at the appropriate file level, will be an essential and fundamental change for us.”
The university and the software company are working together, using a phased approach to the implementation. “We’re going to start slowly with the basics, get comfortable and then move onto more,” Sparks explained.
